Teruja Junior Secondary School Relocation

Back in 2021, we sent out some members of our team at PBEG to work in Aneityum. The relocation and construction of Teruja Junior Secondary School in Aneityum was more than just a construction project – It demonstrated our dedication to be involved in sustainable development in Vanuatu.

The urgency of this project was clear. The original school site, very close to the shoreline, was increasingly threatened by rising sea levels and extreme weather events. The local chiefs and community had long voiced their concerns, and the government prioritized the school’s relocation due to these pressing climate change issues.

We  completed the new school compound in just 9 months, so that the students could continue their education in a safe environment. The new site, situated on higher ground, now features 5 double classrooms, 2 dormitories, 8 sanitary blocks, and 2 teachers’ accommodations, designed to meet the needs of the island’s only junior secondary school.

This project wasn’t just about constructing buildings; it was about protecting the future of Aneityum’s children, providing them with a secure space to learn and grow. We are immensely proud to have played a role in this crucial development, reflecting our ongoing commitment to building a sustainable and resilient Vanuatu.
